Forgot your bottle opener? If your door has a round bore hole (the hole where a doorknob fits), you can use it to pop open a beer bottle safely and easily.
When this hack is useful?
- House parties
- Dorm rooms or rentals
- Moving into a new place without tools
- Any time an opener mysteriously disappears
How it works?
The edge of the door bore hole acts like a fixed lever. When you apply upward pressure, it lifts the bottle cap the same way a traditional opener does.
How to do it
- Place the bottle cap partially inside the edge of the door bore hole
- Hold the bottle firmly with one hand
- Apply steady upward pressure using the door edge as leverage
- The cap pops off cleanly
(Tip: Make sure the door is solid and stable before trying this.)
Why this actually works
Bottle openers rely on leverage, not force. The metal edge of the bore hole provides the same leverage point needed to lift the cap without bending it.
Safety note
- Don’t use fragile doors or loose hinges
- Avoid glass doors
- Apply pressure slowly to prevent slipping
When not to use this hack
- On hollow or decorative doors
- If the bore hole edge is sharp or damaged
- If the bottle is wet and slippery
