Sink draining slowly or starting to smell? Before using harsh chemicals, try this simple drain-cleaning trick.
Use baking soda and vinegar to create a quick fizzing reaction that can help loosen light buildup and freshen the drain. Let it sit for a while, then flush with hot water.
The Science Behind
Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, a mild base. Vinegar is acetic acid, a mild acid. When they meet, they react and produce carbon dioxide gas (that’s the fizzing/bubbling you see).
That fizz can help shake loose light grime, soap residue, and small buildup inside the drain. Then hot water helps flush the loosened dirt away and can soften some greasy residue.
But be honest: this is not a powerful clog remover. It does not truly dissolve hair, thick grease, or solid blockage. For serious clogs, you still need a plunger, drain snake, or proper plumbing fix.
